About the role

AI summarised

The Active Alignment Algorithm Engineer will develop core algorithms for active alignment processes in optical module manufacturing, working with internal design teams and external vendors to transition lab innovations into mass production. The role involves creating feedback algorithms based on optical sensor data, building experimental setups, and collaborating across engineering and manufacturing phases to enable next-generation Apple products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop core algorithm that provides feedback for active alignment process based on optical response (e.g., image from camera or other optical sensor)
  • Work closely with internal designers and external vendors to enable design not achievable in existing supply chain
  • Develop algorithm for equipment and processes to convert an idea in the lab to a mass-produced part
  • Collaborate with external vendors, contract manufacturers, and internal teams (design, operation, etc.) to deliver active alignment solution for new optical module
  • Support deployment of active alignment solution at contract manufacturer site from engineering to mass production phases
  • Build up experimental setup for photonics / optical characterization
  • Use MATLAB for algorithm development and validation
  • Ensure clear and effective communication (written, in person, and virtual) across teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master/PhD in Engineering, Optics, Physics or equivalent
  • Experience in developing algorithm/solution on signal/image processing (computer vision) for manufacturing of optical component/module (>3 years)
  • Experience on experimental setup (hardware + software) for image processing
  • Use of MATLAB for algorithm development and validation
  • Experience on building up experimental setup for photonics / optical characterization
  • Clear and effective communication (written, in person, and virtual) skill
  • Licensed to operate laser (e.g., Singapore NEA N3 license)
  • Experience/expertise in either 1) optics attach (active alignment) process or 2) optical functionality test of optical devices (e.g., camera, projector, range finder, flashlight, proximity sensor)
  • Expertise in 1) geometric optics 2) exposure/understanding on compact optical module (such as camera, proximity and depth sensors)
