Key Responsibilities

  • Partner business stakeholders and oversee delivery of legal and compliance services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies, and priorities
  • Provide legal support and advice to senior management and all internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate with external counterparts on a variety of commercial agreements within the energy and utilities industry, such as utilities services agreements, service corridor agreements, power purchase agreements, engineering procurement & construction agreements and natural gas agreements (for both piped gas and LNG)
  • Review and provide recommendations on the legal aspects and considerations for resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handling disputes and inquiries (from pre-litigation stage to conclusion of hearing)
  • Implement and manage Group company policies, procedures and standards related to legal and compliance matters
  • Monitor changes to regulatory requirements and proactively handle regulatory developments and compliance updates
  • Provide time-sensitive support on a wide array of legal and compliance inquiries in all operational aspects
  • Identify and consult on legal and compliance risks in connection with the company’s businesses
  • Lead or support other projects and tasks as may be required from time to time
  • Provide support to the Head, Legal & Compliance, Gas & Related Services in a leadership role supervising, mentoring and overseeing day-to-day workstreams of junior team members, and to provide guidance and quality assurance on their work
  • Work closely with the Head, Legal & Compliance, to bring the team together, foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, enhance team spirit, and ensuring the department operates as a cohesive, high-performing unit aligned with business objectives

Requirements

  • Possess a Law degree with at least 18 years’ post qualification legal experience
  • Admitted to the Singapore Bar
  • Be an effective time manager with the ability to work in a team
  • Strategic-minded, commercially pragmatic and highly detail-oriented
  • Able to work independently, adaptable, solutions-oriented and enjoy working in and leading a team
  • High degree of independence, initiative, and decisiveness
  • Articulate, good drafting skills and highly effective in English
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to demonstrate sound legal and business judgment, even in ambiguous situations
  • Having a positive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Having the ability to maintain high service standards and problem solve effectively when faced with challenges

  • Comfortable working on cross-functional projects involving engineering, finance, and regulatory considerations
  • Having hands-on experience in the following types of matters would be advantageous: Dealing with gas (LNG and/or PNG), electricity generation and retail, and other utilities contracts; EPC and O&M contracts, specifically in the utilities sector; Project development and/or project finance transactions in the energy, utilities or infrastructure sectors; and Carbon trading, sustainability and corporate commercial contracts
  • Able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities and complete them timely and effectively, with minimal external legal support
