Key Responsibilities

  • Design opto-electronic devices and simulate their performance (optical, thermal, mechanical, electrical) to meet stringent targets.
  • Lead the development of device demonstrators and prototypes, managing vendor relationships for timely delivery.
  • Build custom characterization laboratory-based workstations and execute detailed validation experiments.
  • Design and oversee device characterization under various environmental conditions, analyzing performance and failure modes.
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental work, prepare reports, and manage invention disclosures for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strengthening horizontal relationships with internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in engineering science (applied physics, electronic engineering, optical engineering, laser physics, or closely related) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven hands-on experience designing, building, and testing opto-electronic devices and systems with clear prototype demonstrators.
  • Strong hands-on experience with optical, mechanical, and thermal simulation software (e.g., Zemax, Ansys).
  • Proficiency with experiment automation and Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems using languages like Python or Labview.
  • Advanced knowledge of optoelectronic componentry (lasers, detectors, optics) and relevant suppliers.
  • Understanding of system engineering principles, product development cycles, and trade-off analysis.
  • Ability to independently plan complex experiments, provide critical analysis, and suggest actionable improvements.
