About the role
AI summarisedResearch Scientist role in an interdisciplinary programme focusing on lignocellulosic biomass pre-treatment and conversion into functional materials using green chemistry. The position involves hands-on experimental research, material characterization, and collaboration with AI and automation teams.
ResearchFull-time
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute lignocellulosic biomass pre-treatment and fractionation strategies via green chemistry.
- Convert biomass-derived fractions (cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose) into functional materials, such as polymers, composites, or bio-based specialty materials.
- Perform material characterization using appropriate physicochemical techniques.
- Optimize process parameters with consideration of sustainability, scalability, and material performance.
- Support high-throughput or semi-automated experiment design.
- Work with AI and automation teams to systematically collect, curate, and structure experimental data for database development.
- Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, technology disclosures, and presentations for internal reviews, peer-reviewed journals, conferences and industrial partners.
- Mentor junior researchers and students, if applicable.
Requirements
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Biomass/Bio-refinery Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong experimental background in lignocellulosic biomass processing, biomass fractionation, or bio-based materials synthesis.
- Solid understanding of structure–property–process relationships in materials.
- Track record of peer-reviewed publications and/or patents.
- Familiarity with data-driven or AI-assisted research concepts in materials science is an advantage.
- Experience working with industrial partners or translational research projects is beneficial.
