Key Responsibilities
- Research experience on advanced short-fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites in multiple material systems, heating mechanism and profile optimization for thermoplastic composite forming, AI assisted design for composite mechanics, induction heated welding and integration with robotic-based system, space manufacturing, frontal polymerization, etc
- Working with a team of scientists and engineers to enhance the capability of thermoplastic composite forming technology
- Formulate scientific research direction and innovative proposals to secure competitive funding
- Understand the advanced manufacturing domain and provide innovative solutions to industry problems in the area
- Conduct mechanical tests, testing tool/jig design and material characterizations
- Develop and test innovative solutions for composite fabrication in space application
- Prepare project progress update presentation for customers
- Prepare research project proposals, presentations, and reports, conduct R&D experiments and file technology disclosures
- Support in the process equipment set-up, laboratory operations, and inventory management for export control items
- Keep a good record of production work orders, laboratory data, methods, results, drawings, etc.
- Able to perform well in both industry-type and research-type projects
Requirements
- Familiar with CAD and CAE tools, SolidWorks, etc. Have experience in AI-assisted data processing, supervised learning, AI assisted FEA, etc.
- Deep knowledge of a wide range of forming technologies of metal, composites, and polymer materials
- Experience in project management, grant writing and patent applications will be advantageous
- Basic knowledge of material circularity, CAD design, finite-element analysis and algorithm development is required
