About the role
AI summarisedR&D Engineer focused on mechatronic systems, simulation, and AI at HP. The role involves designing mechanical and thermal hardware, developing FEA and CFD models, and applying AI-driven techniques to accelerate simulation workflows. Requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, and interest in AI/ML applications.
ElectronicsFull-timeEngineering
Key Responsibilities
- Design portions of engineering solutions for mechatronic systems, mechanical and thermal hardware, electronics enclosures, and production tooling, in accordance with established engineering principles and development guidelines.
- Support system-level and control-related design considerations, including servo motion, actuation, power, and integrated mechanical behaviours.
- Conduct feasibility studies, design margin assessments, and analytical evaluations on new and modified designs.
- Perform root cause analysis of design or system issues and propose, evaluate, and implement corrective solutions.
- Develop and apply simulation models, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural, thermal, vibration, and durability assessments.
- Support design decision-making through simulation-driven insights and correlation with empirical data.
- Explore and apply AI-driven techniques to accelerate simulation workflows, improve prediction accuracy, and enable design optimization (e.g., predictive modelling, automated meshing, generative approaches).
- Work in a collaborative R&D environment to design, analyze, simulate, and refine components, devices, structures, and assemblies.
- Participate as a member of cross-functional project teams, including internal engineers and outsourced development partners, to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions for low to moderately complex products.
- Build and manage relationships with suppliers and outsourced partners, setting expectations for deliverables, quality, schedules, and cost.
- Manage engineering change processes, including design change notifications, engineering change approvals, and associated schedules.
- Drive value engineering initiatives, including proposal development, technical evaluation, and communication.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience and demonstrated competence).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD tools, such as Creo Parametric / ProEngineer.
- Experience or understanding of FEA tools (e.g., Altair HyperWorks, ANSYS) is highly preferred.
- Understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials, kinematics, and materials engineering.
- Practical knowledge of material testing methods, such as fatigue and creep testing.
- Interest or exposure to AI / ML concepts and their application in engineering (e.g., predictive modelling, optimization).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with understanding of mechanical and thermal material properties.
- Hands-on engineering capability and willingness to engage directly with hardware, prototypes, testing and failure investigation.
- Programming skills in Python, C++ or MATLAB for simulation automation and data analysis.
