About the role

AI summarised

SIMTech seeks an Energy Systems Analyst to develop national-level energy system models for Singapore's decarbonisation pathways. The role involves techno-economic analysis, scenario testing, and stakeholder engagement with government and industry partners.

ResearchFull-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and calibrate a national-level energy system model used to identify decarbonisation pathways for Singapore
  • Gather user requirements and integrate multiple data streams, such as techno-economic parameters and policy constraints, into modelling framework
  • Perform techno-economic and environmental analysis of energy systems
  • Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity testing to assess the robustness, cost, and emissions impact of different decarbonization pathways
  • Visualize and communicate complex modelling results to non-technical stakeholders
  • Engage with government agencies and industry partners to validate assumptions, align model objectives with strategic needs, and translate model outputs into policy recommendations

Requirements

  • Degree in systems engineering, energy economics and policy, operations research, industrial ecology or a related field (PhD preferred)
  • Familiarity with energy systems model-generators such as TIMES, LEAP, OSeMOSYS, PyPSA, PLEXOS, or other relevant software platforms used for optimization of energy systems
  • Proficiency in programming languages (such as Python, GAMS, R) and data analysis/visualisation tools
  • Experience with techno-economic assessment of energy systems, lifecycle analysis or other sustainability related topics
  • Experience with sensitivity analysis, robust decision making, or uncertainty quantification
  • Interest in computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling is a plus
  • Knowledge of Singapore's and Southeast Asia's energy policy context and industrial ecosystem is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Diligent and possess a positive work attitude
  • Willingness and ability to learn new energy system models, methodologies, and tools to adapt to evolving research needs and technological advancements
  • Candidates from adjacent fields in sustainability, with willingness and ability to translate expertise into the energy and emissions domain and to learn energy systems modelling are strongly encouraged to apply
